PRODUCTS

Q: How do I know which Kozma Curl products are right for me and my curl type?

A: Kozma Curl products are made with love for all curl types. Rather than focusing strictly on curl pattern, we encourage you to choose products based on what your curls need most, such as moisture, definition, or hold. Our range is designed to work together, making it easy to customize a routine that suits your hair.

Q: Does the Kozma Curl Gentle Shampoo produce a lather?

A: Yes, our sulfate free shampoo does produce a lather, but only when enough water is used. Use a generous amount of water.

Q. What is the PH balance of the Gentle Shampoo?

A. The Kozma Curl Gentle Shampoo is color safe and has a pH balance of approximately 6.

A pH around 6 is ideal for curly hair because it is close to the hair and scalp’s natural pH. This helps keep the cuticle smooth, supports moisture retention, and reduces frizz. It is also gentle on color-treated hair, helping maintain vibrancy while cleansing without stripping.

Q. Are Kozma Curl products color safe?

A. Yes. Kozma Curl products are color safe and formulated to gently cleanse and protect color-treated hair.

Q. Can I use Kozma Curl products daily?

A. Yes. Our products are designed to be gentle enough for regular use while supporting curl health and hydration.

Q. Will Kozma Curl products weigh my curls down?

A. Our formulas are designed to provide hydration and definition without heaviness or buildup.

Q. Are your products safe for sensitive scalps?

A. Yes. Parents, customers who are eczema-prone, and those with reactive scalps safely and confidently use our products. Our products are gentle and formulated without harsh ingredients. We recommend a patch test for very sensitive skin.

Q. Do your products work for men's curly hair?

A. Yes. Kozma Curl products are designed for all curl types, regardless of gender. Many men enjoy and love our products!

Q. Do I need to use all Kozma Curl products together?

A. No. Our products can be used individually or layered together depending on your curl needs.

Q. How much product should I use?

A. Start with a small amount and build as needed. Curly hair responds best to gradual layering. Check out each individual product page, we have provided a helpful video on how to use the product.

Q. Are your products suitable for humid climates?

A. Yes. Our styling products are designed to support curl definition and control frizz in humid environments.

INGREDIENTS

Q: Are your products safe for babies and children?

A. Yes. Kozma Curl products are gentle and suitable for all ages. Our formulas are designed to be kind to curls and sensitive scalps, and they are sulfate free, paraben free, silicone free, vegan, and cruelty free.

As with any haircare product, we recommend performing a patch test first, especially for babies or those with very sensitive skin.

Q: Tell me more about 'Made With Love'.

A: We carefully selected every ingredient based on what truly benefits curly hair. Our products contain natural active ingredients that help build strength, support elasticity, and promote overall curl health through proper nourishment and hydration.

Equally important is what we chose to leave out. Certain ingredients are known to have a negative impact on curly hair, so we intentionally excluded them from our formulas. Silicones, sulfates, and parabens were not included because they can be harsh, stripping, drying, and prone to buildup, which can block moisture from properly penetrating the hair.

Q: What is a silicone? Why do Kozma Curl products not contain silicones?

A: Silicones are man-made ingredients that are synthesized and modified through industrial processes. They can be derived from mineral elements and altered to create a wide range of properties, which means not all silicones are the same. Some product brands choose lower-quality, inexpensive silicones that can have more negative long-term effects on the hair.

Pros

Silicones can provide excellent slip, making detangling easier and helping hair feel smooth. By coating each strand, they can temporarily reduce frizz by creating a barrier that limits the effects of humidity.

Cons

Most silicones are not water-soluble, which means they can build up on the hair over time and are not easily removed with water or gentle cleansers. For curly hair, this buildup can be problematic. The coating acts as a sealant that blocks moisture from entering the hair shaft, and curls rely heavily on moisture and hydration to stay healthy.

As buildup increases, nutrients are unable to penetrate, curls can become dry, brittle, and more prone to breakage, and hair may lose its natural movement and vitality. Silicones can also weigh curls down, leaving them dull and lifeless. While they may feel great on the hair initially, their effects can become damaging over time, which is why some people describe becoming “silicone dependent” due to the short-term smooth feel they provide.

For these reasons, our products are completely silicone free.

Q: What is a sulfate? Why do Kozma Curl products not contain sulfates?

A: Sulfates are cleansing agents commonly used in shampoos, such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate. They are designed to remove oil, dirt, and product buildup from the hair and scalp.

Pros

Sulfate-based shampoos create a rich lather and are very effective at cleansing. They can remove heavy buildup, leaving hair feeling squeaky clean and shiny.

Cons

For curly hair, sulfates can be too harsh. They often strip away the natural oils and moisture that curls need to stay healthy, leading to dryness, frizz, and breakage. Sulfates can also lift the hair’s cuticle, which disrupts the curl pattern and leaves hair feeling rough and unmanageable, ultimately leading to frizz.

For these reasons, Kozma Curl products are sulfate free, helping to cleanse curls gently while preserving moisture, softness, and curl integrity.

Q: What is a paraben? Why do Kozma Curl products not contain parabens?

A: Parabens are synthetic preservatives that have been used in cosmetic and hair products since the 1950s to help prevent bacterial growth and extend shelf life.

In recent years, parabens have been studied due to concerns about their potential to disrupt the body’s natural hormone balance. While research is ongoing and findings are not conclusive, some consumers prefer to avoid parabens, particularly because they can be absorbed through the skin and scalp.

Parabens are typically used in very small amounts and are strictly regulated, especially within the European Union. However, at Kozma Curl, we chose to take a cautious approach. We intentionally avoided parabens and instead selected safer alternative preservatives that meet high performance and safety standards.

Choosing these alternatives requires more careful formulation and higher manufacturing costs, but this aligns with our commitment to creating products made with love, integrity, and care for curly hair.

For these reasons, Kozma Curl products are paraben free.

Q: Are Kozma Curl products vegan? Do you test on animals?

A: Kozma Curl products are vegan and cruelty free. Our formulas do not contain any animal-derived ingredients, and our products are never tested on animals.

We care deeply about animals and are committed to creating products that align with our values of kindness, responsibility, and conscious beauty.

Q. Do Kozma Curl products contain protein?

Protein balance is essential for healthy hair. Hair is primarily made of a protein called keratin, and curly hair in particular relies on the right balance of protein and moisture to stay strong and resilient.

Why curly hair needs protein

If we look at an individual curly hair strand under a microscope, we see a protective outer layer made up of cuticles. In curly hair, these cuticles do not lie flat; they are naturally lifted. This allows moisture and nutrients to enter the hair, but it also allows them to escape more easily.

When moisture and nutrients are lost too quickly, the internal structure of the hair weakens. Over time, this can cause protein loss within the hair shaft, leading to dryness, breakage, and loss of curl strength.

Protein treatments and balance

Many products on the market are protein-rich or marketed as deep protein treatments. These products can be beneficial when used correctly, but they should be used sparingly. How often protein is needed depends entirely on your individual curl type and hair condition. That could mean never, weekly, monthly, or only occasionally. Curl care is never one-size-fits-all.

One common issue we see is protein overload. When too much protein is used without enough moisture, curls can become dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. Some curl types are protein-sensitive and can be negatively affected very quickly.

For example:

  1. Low-porosity hair struggles to absorb moisture, so excess protein can sit on the hair and cause dryness and breakage.

  2. Fine hair is delicate, and too much protein can cause strands to snap.

  3. High-porosity or damaged hair may benefit most from occasional protein use, as it helps strengthen weakened areas.

Protein in Kozma Curl products

At this time, Kozma Curl does not offer protein-based deep treatments. Our Shampoo and Defining Gel do contain small amounts of protein, but far less than a protein-rich treatment. This level is gentle and balanced, making them safe for daily use.

For most curls, this combination of light protein support and ample moisture provides an ideal daily balance to help keep hair strong, hydrated, and healthy without the risk of protein overload.

Q: Do Kozma Curl products contain natural ingredients?

A: Yes. Kozma Curl products contain carefully selected natural active ingredients chosen for their ability to support curl health, hydration, and strength. These ingredients work in harmony with curly hair to nourish from the inside out, helping improve elasticity, moisture balance, and overall curl vitality.

While our formulas are thoughtfully blended with safe, high-performance ingredients to ensure stability and effectiveness, we prioritize natural actives wherever possible to deliver results that curls truly need.

Our goal is always the same: healthy, well-nourished curls that look and feel their best.
